The Vibe Report – September ‘08

This month we had a terrible tragedy in the form of a plane crash and our government told us exactly where they stand when it comes to who they want to help out. Thankfully, Funkmaster Flex's reply to R. Kelly’s BET interview, the return of fall TV, and the 2008 NFL season have given many of us something to smile about. Here are the pros and cons of the month that was.

Good Vibes

Funkmaster Flex vs. R. Kelly -
I was planning on writing an entire blog post on the insanity of R. Kelly’s comments during his interview with Toure on BET. I really wanted to address R’s ridiculous question of “when you say teenage how old are we talkin?” after Toure had asked him if he liked teenage girls. Funkmaster Flex, however, beat me to the punch with this two and a half minute video clip where he says everything I wanted to say and more.

I think it's safe to say that Flex won't be dropping the bomb on an R. Kelly song anytime soon.

The Return of Entourage and HIMYM - It felt like it had been forever since my two favorite half hour shows (Entourage and How I Met Your Mother) had new episodes on the air, but they're finally back and now nobody can say there isn't anything good on TV. I was happy to see Jeremy Piven take home another Emmy for his portrayal of Ari Gold on Entourage, but now that he has three for playing that role can we see Kevin Dillon get one for Johnny Drama, a character who would, far and away, outshine everyone else on almost any other show on television? (and if he wins it can his entire acceptance speech just be the word "Victory!")

Jerry Manuel - I can’t let baseball’s regular season come to a close without giving some props to Mets manager Jerry Manuel. He turned our season around and has worked wonders with an unhealthy, depleted, and at times simply untalented bullpen, making us contenders once again. I have no idea how he did it, but I’m extremely glad he’s here. Now let’s hope the organization does what’s right and signs him to a three year contract.

The New York Football Giants - I’m not expecting perfection, but starting off 3-0 is mighty nice. At the start of the year I seemed to be one of the only people not counting us out and now we’re one of only two teams in the NFC that are still undefeated. Brett who? Eli is the king in this city, and as I told a buddy of mine on Sunday, never count him out when we need a last minute touchdown drive, he WILL make it happen.

Bad Vibes

Government Bailouts -
Lemme get this straight… the average person works hard, tries to manage their money as best as they can, pays their rent / mortgage on time, just barely gets by, and the government takes their money through taxation, while a huge company gambles with other people’s money, loses it all, and rather than facing any kind of repercussions the government gives them over eighty billion dollars to bail them out? And people wonder why I vote third party.

Small Planes - While it’s fantastic that Travis Barker and DJ AM, the two survivors of a horrific weekend plane crash that took the lives of the four others aboard, look like they’re going to eventually recover from their injuries (knock on wood), how many small plane crashes do we have to see before we put some stricter rules on these things? It seems every year at least one known person is involved in a crash and there are countless other unknown people who have their lives taken in small plane accidents. There has to be a safer way to get from point A to point B!

eli is king but brett is killing cats. jets are averaging like 35 points a game. they're only 2-2 'cause the defense hasn't been holding it down. go jints forever though.
