Pop Shots – On The Job

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Nicki Minaj’s new gig, to why you might not want to work for Ed Sheeran, to the NFL finally booking some good acts for halftime, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Nicki Minaj will be one of the judges for the Trump Administration’s small-business Million Dollar Pitch Competition. Once again, we are living in the world’s worst edition of Mad Libs.

* hustl. announced BABYMETAL will join Marvel Zombies on a limited-edition variant cover to celebrate the release of Marvel Zombies: War Zone (2026) #1. This comes after BABYMETAL’s song, “from me to u,” was featured in the trailer for Marvel Zombies on Disney+. Listen, I don’t know anything about the Marvel universe, but I know you can never go wrong by adding BABYMETAL to things.

* Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was vandalized just a week after her passing, necessitating the ordering of a replacement. I don’t know if the police have any leads, but does anyone know where Jolene was that night?

* In much better Dolly related news, the wheels are in motion to change the name of Nashville International Airport to Dolly Parton International Airport, with just the matter of waiving a few policies before it can happen. There’s no truth to the rumor, however, that TSA agents will be required to tell you they will always love you while giving you a pat down.

* During a load-out after Ed Sheeran’s recent concert in Detroit, six workers were rushed to the hospital after suffering injuries in an incident involving pieces of equipment falling on them. Man, you take a job hoping to score with some chicks looking to get backstage to meet Ed Sheeran, and you wind up resembling Massive Head Wound Harry.

* Miley Cyrus may be following the likes of Cher, and Madonna, and dropping her last name. The singer recently changed her username on her socials to simply @miley, and posted a photo with just her first name in the caption. Nobody let her dad know, his achy breaky heart just won’t understand!

* Finneas married Claudia Sulewski in a ceremony that was officiated by his sister, Billie Eilish. Do you think she whispered the entire thing like she does all of her songs?

* The NFL might finally be getting some halftime shows right, as they announced Taylor Momsen will be joining Soundgarden for the halftime show at the season opener in Seattle on September 9th, and The Warning will headline the halftime show at the league’s 2026 game in Mexico City. Give us more of this, please!!!
