Pop Shots – Unexpected Developments

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Megan Thee Stallion finding a new feline friend, to Selena Gomez being in some serious trouble, to Yungblud, and a member of Matchbox Twenty, dealing with fresh injuries, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Megan Thee Stallion posted a video on social media of an orange cat that’s been appearing outside of the studio where she’s recording her upcoming album. She also revealed she’s now feeding the cat, and has given him a name. I assume if it’s raining outside she lets him in so he doesn’t become a … wet ass pussy.

* Weezer’s Brian Bell says a movie about the band will be coming out in 2027. A movie? I guess Beverly Hills really is where they want to be.

* On an episode of the Complex collectibles show On Display – because apparently that’s a thing – Rick Ross claimed he hasn’t lost a game of Madden in “eight or nine years.” That’s a heck of a way to reveal to the world that you haven’t figured out how to switch the game from beginner mode.

* Ricky Martin will perform at halftime of the NFL’s game in Brazil on September 27th, because if there’s anything football fans love, it’s Ricky Martin.

* Selena Gomez and her mom are facing a massive securities fraud lawsuit after their mental health startup Wondermind went belly up. Their investors, who are looking for upwards of one million dollars, allege Gomez and her mom made false promises to them, and then did nothing as the company collapsed. Geez, Selena, you were the good girl in Spring Breakers!

* The Jonas Brothers announced their Burning Up Tour All Over Again has been expanded for the fall into a 45-city North American excursion. Burning up? Sounds like the trio swapped their purity rings for a nasty case of VD.

* Shakira donated $1.25 million to help rebuild schools in Columbia that were damaged by a recent earthquake. Plagiarism standards will also be raised at the schools, as now even the students’ hips will not be permitted to lie.

* Rob Thomas had quite the incident during a recent Matchbox Twenty show. While swinging his mic stand it came apart, and hit guitar player Paul Douchette. There is no truth to the rumor, however, that afterward Douchette could be heard muttering, “I bet he’d never do that to Carlos Santana.”

* In more injury news, Yungblud broke his leg in a motorcycle accident at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Geez, if that’s what happens to him at a motorcycle rally, I would suggest laying low during Shark Week.

* Slipknot has parted ways with longtime keyboardist and DJ, Sid Wilson. You’ll remember him as the guy in a mask.

* In sad news, EMF co-founder and keyboardist Derry Brownson passed away at the age of 55. While everyone remembers the band’s seminal hit “Unbelievable,” I’d like to remind folks that “Lies” was also a ridiculously good tune.
