Pop Shots – Surprises

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Pitbull’s next project, to Morrissey’s last minute cancellation, to the NFL’s choice for a halftime performer in Australia, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Pitbull will be releasing his 14th studio album, titled Pitcoin, on October 8th. I’m sorry, there have been thirteen Pitbull albums?!?! Thirteen?!?!

* The Backstreet Boys invited Snoop Dogg to stop by their Las Vegas residency during a conversation at the Los Angeles premiere of Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie. Stories like this one make we wonder if reality is just one giant game of Mad Libs.

* Eminem is auctioning off 117 pairs of his sneakers, all of which will be autographed, to benefit his Marshall Mathers Foundation. Sneakers? OK, but what about the autographed Starter cap intended for Stan???

* Morrissey canceled his Las Vegas residency just one week before the four night run was schedule to begin. The reason given was “unforeseen logistical issues,” of course, with Morrissey that probably means “couldn’t find a way to force the hotel to make all their guests, and staff, not eat meat.”

* Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” was the most chosen song on TouchTunes jukeboxes for the second quarter in a row. Not to take anything away from Langley’s accomplishment, but there used to be a bar by me with a TouchTunes jukebox, and it always had “Who Let The Dogs Out” at #1, because a guy would come in every day, and play it, so let’s just say the rankings are dubious at best.

* Rod Stewart had to cancel the remaining dates of his North American One Last Time farewell tour after undergoing a routine heart related procedure. The “If you want my body” lyric from “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” is now aimed solely at medical professionals.

* Whitney Houston has been immortalized as a Barbie doll that features her look from the video for “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” The world now awaits Bobby Brown Ken.

* The Jonas Brothers will headline the halftime show at the NFL’s first game in Australia, on September 10th. Oh I’m sure that’ll go over well in the country that gave us AC/DC, Midnight Oil, INXS, Tonight Alive, and Amyl and the Sniffers.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
