Pop Shots – Take Your Time

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Ella Langley’s long stay at the top, to why the parents of Olivia Rodrigo fans need to slow down and look where they’re stepping, to a long awaited honor for Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” spent an 11th nonconsecutive week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which is the most weeks a woman has been at #1 with a country song in the chart’s history. So cue Taylor Swift to either suddenly become friends with Langley, or to randomly go back to country music to make this title her own. Those have become the only two roads she goes down.
* Metallica played a Tom Jones cover at their recent concert at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, but it was an act of rebellion, as the song, “Delilah,” has been banned in the stadium … well, during rugby matches … due to its violent lyrics about approaching an ex-girlfriend at her home while wielding a knife. Man, Carlton Banks’ story could’ve taken quite the dark turn.

* LEGO announced a collaboration with Olivia Rodrigo, as the toy company will release five sets in the singer’s honor. With this collaboration, Rodrigo will likely lose a significant portion of her adult fan base, because stepping on an Olivia Rodrigo LEGO on the way to the bathroom at 3am is going to cause a lot of parents to curse her name.
* The Electric Forest Festival turned into an absolute horror when a deceased newborn was found in a portable toilet on the festival’s campground. Hey Electric Forest, you know things aren’t going well when you’re making Woodstock ’99, and Altamont look like safe spaces.
* Victor Willis, the longtime frontman of the Village People, passed away at the age of 74. May he forever be remembered for his subtlety.

* Twista pleaded guilty to $440k in tax evasion, and now faces up to five years in jail. No matter what Twista spent that money on, I’m sure he spent it wiser than our government would have.
* Coldplay’s earliest studio tapes, and demos are currently up for auction, with bidding being open through July 19th. Congrats to whichever elevator music company turns out to be the winner, and gets to add these songs to their rotation.
* Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 8th. I’m sorry, but someone really dropped the ball here, because how on earth is this not happening on the “1st of tha Month?”
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
