Pop Shots – Night Moves

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from P!nk achieving a big dream, to Jay-Z being slept on, to Lizzo not losing any sleep over a hater, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* P!nk told Billboard that her gig hosting the Tony Awards over the weekend was living out one of her childhood dreams. Call me crazy, but I don’t think that particular “I have a dream” speech will make it into our history books.

* On the Today show, Jennifer Lopez dodged a question about whether she was romantically involved with her Office Romance co-star Brett Goldstein, saying, “There is never a time when I’m seen with somebody, or working with somebody, that they don’t try and put me with the person.” Ah yes, who can ever forget the rampant rumors of Jennifer Lopez dating Jon Voight … and a giant anaconda.

* Morgan Wallen pushed over his piano after experiencing technical difficulties during a recent concert in Denver. As readers know, I’m no fan of Morgan Wallen, but I will admit I’m of the school of thought that feels “give it a good whack” can fix most things.

* Podcast personality Mal, of New Rory & Mal, said he would side with Drake in a hypothetical battle against Jay-Z. Let this be further evidence that people will say literally anything to get attention … and that there are WAY too many podcasts.

* PETA publicly called out Lizzo for partnering with Chili’s for the restaurant chain’s latest baby back ribs campaign. When asked for comment, the majority of the nation said, “Mmmm, ribs.”

* Dua Lipa and Callum Turner have tied the knot. To illustrate just how little I pay attention to modern movies, my first thought was “Oh, how nice, she married a regular guy.” Then I Googled Callum Turner, and discovered he’s some famous actor. He probably doesn’t know who I am, so I guess it’s all a wash.

* The Black Crowes’ frontman Chris Robinson lashed out at fans at a recent show in Florida for chanting “USA! USA!” when the band’s visuals showed their mascot dressed as Uncle Sam. It’s been tough for the crow mascot since then, as he’s apparently had to join a band mascot support group, and the arctic monkey there has been no help whatsoever.

* Peabo Bryson, known for his smooth vocals, quiet storm hits, and legendary Disney collaborations, passed away at the age of 75. Sadly, this means the world, as a whole, is now a little less romantic.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
