Pop Shots – Emotionally Charged

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Olivia Rodrigo’s sadness giving her reasons to be happy, to No Limit and Cash Money teaming up for something special, to Katy Perry potentially causing an international incident, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, dominated the competition on streaming services. On Spotify it was the most-streamed album in a single day this year by a female artist, and it was Amazon Music’s biggest 24-hour streaming debut globally for the year so far. Somewhere, Taylor Swift is momentarily putting her wedding plans aside to think of a way to crush her.
* Jelly Roll filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo after nearly a decade of marriage. We’ll find out if it was amicable based on whether he sings a certain Buffy classic on any of his tour dates.

* No Limit Records and Cash Money Records are teaming up for an arena tour that will kick off on September 11th in Houston. This is the only way it’s acceptable for the South to rise again.
* Backstreet Boys just released a song titled “Bottle Up” in conjunction with Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie. It should be noted this is not the legendary boy band’s first foray into the animal film world – they voiced the Zombeaverbear in the 2014 horror comedy Zombeavers. Really, I’m not kidding!

* Drake randomly insulted Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards in a commercial for Kevin Durant’s new sneaker. What’s his beef? Does Edwards have kicks that aren’t available in kids sizes?
* Former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau skipped his country’s World Cup opening ceremony to attend the United States vs. Paraguay match with current girlfriend Katy Perry. Sounds like someone is about to lose his Hoser Hut privileges!

* In an effort to further devalue the phrases “Grammy Nominee” and “Grammy Winner,” the Recording Academy is introducing five new categories to the Grammys, bringing the total number of awards to 100. There’s a word that precedes trophies when 100 of them are given out, and that word is “participation.”
* Bonnie Tyler has woken up from an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal, and is reportedly slowly improving, although still in intensive care. The “now I’m only falling apart” lyric hits a little too close to home here, so get well soon, Bonnie!
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
