Pop Shots – Big Gains

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Jamie Foxx’s upcoming addition to his family, to Red Hot Chili Peppers giving themselves an influx of cash, to Dua Lipa looking for some compensation from Samsung, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Jamie Foxx and girlfriend Alyce Huckstepp are reportedly expecting their first child together, his third overall. There is no word on if he’s blaming this on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol.

* Bring Me The Horizon’s frontman, Oliver Sykes, suffered a mild concussion during a recent show when he was hit by a phone that was thrown at him by someone in the crowd. Well, that’s certainly one way to change your phone’s Face ID.

* Red Hot Chili Peppers sold their catalog to Warner Music Group for a reported $300 million. All the Sweet 16 birthday parties Anthony Kiedis has to throw for his girlfriends must be adding up.

* A jukebox musical featuring the songs of Weird Al is being developed for Broadway. Anything that helps get Weird Al closer to EGOT status is very cool with me!

* U2 was seen in Mexico City filming a music video for their new single, “Street of Dreams.” They better hope U.S border patrol isn’t still holding a grudge over the whole “automatically putting their album in your iTunes” thing.

* Dua Lipa filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung for using her image and likeness to sell TVs without her permission, and without compensation. She should be warned, the first witnesses for the defense will be the family in the photo of every picture frame.

* During a livestream where 6ix9ine found out the gender of his latest child that’s on the way, the rapper said, “If it’s not a boy, it’s an a-bor-tion.” 6ix9ine was once busted for having sex with a 13 year old girl, so perhaps that was just self-preservation on his part.

* 50 Cent, Diplo, The Chainsmokers, Nelly, and Gordo are slated to perform in World Cup cities this summer as part of Sports Illustrated’s SI Beyond the Pitch series of events. Oh, so that’s who keeps booking The Chainsmokers.

* Members of the children’s music group The Wiggles admitted on a radio show that they weren’t all that familiar with Oasis, with one adding that they liked Blur more. Please, I am begging the universe, let this lead to a series of quotes and comments from Liam Gallagher aimed at The Wiggles. I never knew I needed this beef until right now. Anyway, here’s “Wonderwall” …

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
