NYC Scene Report – Scout Gillett, mmeadows, & OK Cowgirl

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Scout Gillett knowing things are “Gonna Change,” mmeadows peacing out (but just in a song), and OK Cowgirl discovering “It Wasn’t You, It Was the Feeling.”

* Last month Scout Gillett released her sophomore album Tough Touch, via Slouch Records, and it includes the country tinged single “Gonna Change.”

“‘Gonna Change,’” she explained in a statement, “is about the daunting reality of how life is always changing, with the goal in mind to ‘exist inside the grey, where nothing stays the same.’”

Gillett continued, “We attach to our ideas of ourselves and others, and sometimes that blindsides reality. Although this song tackles some challenges, it still maintains an upbeat attitude that you can two-step along to.”

Give the song a play, and get comfortable with the fact that things are “Gonna Change.”

* mmeadows are back with a new single, and it’s quite the tale.

Titled “Cherry,” the indie pop song is an incredible narrative, that ends with a twist.

The mmeadows duo of Kristin Slipp and Cole Kamen-Green wrote on Instagram, that at the song’s core, “It’s about peacing the fuck out,” adding that it’s a prelude to the single they released last fall, titled “Weaving.”

One of the most dynamic duos not just in the city, but in all of music, every new song from mmeadows is a must-listen, so click play, and get to know “Cherry,” she’s someone you won’t soon forget.

* OK Cowgirl recently released a new single, and its message is clear, “It Wasn’t You, It Was the Feeling.”

In an Instagram post, frontwoman Leah Lavigne explained the song is about the fleeting connection of flings, writing, “You ever meet someone and sparks fly, but life gets in the way, and months drag on where you’re left in a limbo of not knowing where you stand with this person? You ever think about breaking it off, but then the next time you see them the electricity hypnotizes you into complacency? Well, babe, let me gently remind you it is not them you are after, it is that ooey gooey human magic we call connection, and you can find it packaged with a kind, considerate, consistent, communicative bean. Don’t settle for flakes. Don’t make yourself miserable making excuses for them.”

A big, bold, and ultimately triumphant indie pop rock song, I have a feeling you’re gonna love “It Wasn’t You, It Was the Feeling.” Check it out.
