Pop Shots – Now & Later

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Cardi B playing the waiting game, to Morgan Wallen striking while the iron is hot, to a plethora of summer tours that will be happening, and one that’s hit a snag, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* During a livestream on X Spaces, Cardi B revealed there will be “surprising” guest features on her sophomore album. Being that the album is currently seven years in the making, what will be most surprising is if anyone is interested in it.

* Sean Kingston, and his mother were found guilty on federal wire fraud charges totaling over $1 million. I mean, with a song begging people to call 911, he really only has himself to blame.

* GloRilla, Gunna, and Ja Rule are set to headline this year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam. I wonder if Ja Rule realizes that crowd views him as someone their parents used to listen to.

* Morgan Wallen caused a stir when he abruptly walked off the stage at the closing of Saturday Night Live as the credits were rolling, and then posted a photo on social media that was a view from his private plane, along with the message “Get me to God’s country.” With the phrase garnering a big reaction, he then launched a “Get me to God’s country” t-shirt. Not surprisingly, it’s white.

* Creed has added five more dates to their Summer of ’99 tour. With this news, Nickelback has to know the nostalgia for them is coming any day now.

* Chris Brown announced he’ll be on the road this summer with the Breezy Bowl XX stadium world tour, which will also feature Summer Walker, and Bryson Tiller. He also revealed he’ll be doing meet and beats again … no, wait, that’s meet and greets. Meet and beats are strictly reserved for the women he dates.

* The Soundside Festival announced The Killers, Weezer, Hozier, and Vampire Weekend will be the headliners for this year’s two-day September affair. Speaking of affairs, one of last year’s headliners (Foo Fighters) had to cancel due to the lead singer having a baby out of wedlock just weeks before the show, so … your move, Rivers Cuomo.

* The members of the Mexican group Los Alegres del Barranco had their U.S. work, and tourist visas cancelled after they displayed images of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, who is the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during a concert in Guadalajara. That band has to be really confused right now knowing how much Americans worship movies like Scarface.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
