Pop Shots – Nice Save
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from John Mayer saving The Muppets from a cult, to The B-52s giving fans another reason to save some jukebox money, to handwritten Sex Pistols lyrics that have been saved for decades, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* John Mayer and director McG (The O.C., Supernatural) have teamed up to buy Henson Studios for approximately $60M, saving it from being sold to the Church of Scientology. We should all be eternally thankful for Mayer and McG making this purchase, because based on what we know about David Miscavige’s wife, if they hadn’t, we might have never seen Miss Piggy again!
* CKY was kicked off their joint tour with Alien Ant Farm after the latter’s frontman, Dryden Mitchell, said CKY’s Chad I Ginsburg punched him in the face during an altercation. Ginsburg claims the punch was in self-defense. I don’t know who did what, I just know this sounds like a job for claymation Mills Lane!
* Chappell Roan has had a heck of a year. She had a star-making opening slot on Olivia Rodrigo’s tour, performed at multiple major festivals, appeared on SNL, and most recently was nominated for six Grammy awards. Roan decided to reward all the hard work her manager, Nick Bobetsky of State of the Art, had put into her career over the past six years … by firing him, and splitting completely with State of the Art. The level of self-sabotage here is truly amazing, and what’s even more impressive is how this woman, at the age of just 26, has already reached Morrissey levels of insufferability. At the rate she’s going it won’t be long before she’s a Chappell completely absent of worshipers.
* The B-52s will return to The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas to perform five shows in April of 2025. Word is the best way to get there is to hop in a Chrysler that’s as big as a whale.
* Coldplay announced they’ll be having a show in India on January 25th at Narendra Modi Stadium, which has a capacity of 132,000. I just have one question for everyone who may attend – can’t you just download a sleep app?
* Megan Fox is expecting a child with Machine Gun Kelly. Based on her decision making ability, I’m starting to think she really would’ve gotten into Low Shoulder’s van.
* Linkin Park, fronted by Emily Armstrong, will be going on a world tour next year. Thanks to John Mayer, they will not be stopping at Henson Studios.
* John Lydon’s handwritten Sex Pistols lyrics for “Holidays in the Sun” and “Submission” are currently being auctioned off together via RR Auction, with bidding closing on November 21st. I’m no social media influencer, but I think handwritten Sex Pistols lyrics are the perfect gift for the person who has everything … and wants to burn it all to the ground.
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
