Pop Shots – They’ll Be There
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Selena Gomez accepting invites, to Halsey hiding things in cities all over the world, to Taylor Swift potentially eyeing NFL sidelines, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Selena Gomez was invited to a high school girls’ volleyball game while she was in Telluride, CO, for the Telluride Film Festival, and she actually showed up. Oh Selena, you have no idea the Pandora’s box of evites, and virtual flyers you just opened. Joan now absolutely expects you at her baby shower, Daniel will be crushed if you miss his prom, and a DJ playing at a local gymnasium has you on his VIP list.
* Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” was Billboard’s #1 global song of the summer, proving once again that we should never underestimate the power of payola.
* Halsey launched a scavenger hunt through five cities across the world to find the five versions of the cover art for her upcoming album, The Great Impersonator. Hey Halsey, if the cover hidden in NYC is of a rat dragging a slice of pizza down the stairs at a subway station, we found it a while ago.
* Lil Wayne announced on Twitter that the long awaited Hot Boys reunion will take place at his annual Lil’ WeezyAna Fest on November 2nd at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. If they could’ve waited a few more weeks I feel like this would’ve been a heck of a way to kick off the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
* During a recent podcast appearance, 50 Cent claimed he’s spent $24 million in legal fees over the course of his career. Damn, Fiddy, how many samples have you had to get cleared???
* With the NFL season upon us, Travis Kelce told Rich Eisen that Taylor Swift has started making play suggestions. I guess this means she’s in her Tecmo Super Bowl era.
* The Weeknd, who now goes by his government name, Abel Tesfaye, revealed Hurry Up Tomorrow will be the title of the final album in his After Hours trilogy. Being that the album has no release date, the title is currently a wonderful display of irony.
* Lady Gaga announced the first single off her upcoming album, LG7, will be released sometime in October. Oh, so Lady Gaga’s just gonna come in and try to upstage my birthday (which is on October 15th)? Not on my watch, Gaga! Not on my watch!
* Boosie Badazz went on social media to ask both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump for a presidential pardon, in an attempt to cover his bases no matter who wins the election. With this in mind, I’m gonna need “Wipe Me Down” brought up as often as possible during the debate.
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
