Pop Shots – Doin’ Time
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Chappell Roan not enjoying her 15 minutes of fame, to Diddy hopefully spending the rest of his life in prison, to Jane’s Addiction with a horribly timed release, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* In an interview with The Face, Chappell Roan said she hopes she doesn’t win a Grammy “because then everyone will get off my ass.” Six-months-from-now Chappell Roan chimed in to say, “Wait, I didn’t mean it! Pay attention to me again!!!”
* Cher will be headlining the first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since 2018. With how much of her is liable to melt under the lights, this fashion show could very quickly turn into a sequel to House of Wax.
* Diddy was finally taken into federal custody, and is being held without bail. The indictment against him alleges he engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, interstate transportation for purposes of prostitution, coercion and enticement to engage in prostitution, narcotics offenses, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice. Anyone else suddenly wondering how much Biggie might have known back in the day, and that’s why he was killed?
* Super Bowl halftime producer Jesse Collins revealed Jay-Z had the final say regarding the halftime performer. So it was Jay who chose Kendrick Lamar to perform at the game, which will take place in New Orleans, over New Orleans native Lil Wayne. Personally, I’m still waiting for New Orleans’ own Harry Connick Jr. to weigh in on this, and record a diss track aimed at Jay-Z.
* Ariana Grande’s current boyfriend, Ethan Slater, is now officially divorced from his now ex-wife Lilly Jay. His continued ability to outkick his coverage will be studied for generations.
* Zayn Malik made a silent walk-on appearance on The Tonight Show to reveal he’ll be going on an 11-date tour that will kick off October 23rd in San Francisco. A silent appearance on The Tonight Show? I wonder if we could convince Jimmy Fallon to do that!
* Jane’s Addiction released a new song titled “True Love” just days after lead singer Perry Farrell attempted to fight guitarist Dave Navarro on stage, leading to the cancellation of the rest of their tour. Apparently the thing Jane is addicted to most is irony.
* Kid Cudi’s “Day ’n’ Nite” has achieved diamond status, with over 10 million in sales / streaming equivalent units. That’s a lotta lonely stoners freeing their mind at night. (also, this is much deserved, as “Day ’n’ Nite” is arguably one of the best songs of the past 20 years)
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
