Pop Shots – Workin’ It

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from why you might not want to work for The Weeknd, to Post Malone working with the wrong artist, to Mary J. Blige revealing when she may stop working altogether, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* A security guard was shot at the California home of The Weeknd’s co-manager, Amir “Cash” Esmailian, but is expected to make a full recovery. With all due respect to Loverboy, based on this story I think a lot of people no longer have any interest in working for The Weeknd.

* During an appearance on Jennifer Hudson’s daytime talk show, Cher discussed her penchant for dating younger men, saying, “The reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older — well, now they’re all dead — but before … they were always terrified to approach me.” Imagine letting something like the lack of a pulse deter you from dating someone. Buffy never let it stop her!

* Morgan Wallen debuted a new collaboration with Post Malone titled, “I Had Some Help” during the country music festival Stagecoach. Post Malone going from being a hip-hop artist, to hanging out with someone who says the N-word using a hard R, is certainly quite the unexpected, and wildly disappointing twist.

* After Drew Carey saw Phish at their Sphere show in Las Vegas he excitedly wrote he would stick his “d*ck in a blender” for more time with the band. Phish saw the post, and sent him a blender that singer/guitarist Trey Anastasio inscribed, writing, “Thank you Drew! See you next time, happy blending!” Umm … I just really hope the putting game isn’t about to be replaced by this on The Price Is Right.

* While discussing her current relationship status, Shakira told Marie Claire, “I’ve witnessed love, I just haven’t been that lucky myself. Monogamy is a utopia.” All I have to say is, Shakira, if you’re reading this …

* Doja Cat took to Twitter to excoriate fans for bringing their kids to her shows, and for having kids in the first place, tweeting, “idk what the f*ck you think this is but i don’t make music for children so leave your kids at home motherf*cker.” She then added, in a profanity filled follow up tweet where she discussed her lyrical content, “leave your mistake at home.” So Doja Cat is out here calling kids a mistake, meanwhile the only real mistake would be paying to see Doja Cat.

* Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted Tour earned $64.6 million in the month of March, selling 207,000 tickets over 13 shows. The month was even better for the Cadbury Bunny, since Easter was on March 31st, and those eggs are like crack.

* In an interview with Extra, Mary J. Blige revealed retirement may be in her near future, saying, “Right now, I’m definitely gonna do some more acting, and I’m definitely gonna retire in, like, five, or six years.” To be fair, it has to be exhausting being someone’s lover and secretary working every day of the week.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
