Pop Shots – Something’s Different

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Kesha changing a lyric, to my fruitless attempt to add a date to Shakira’s upcoming world tour, to Rick Ross accusing Drake of making a major physical alteration, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Kesha altered the opening lyric to her mega-hit “Tik Tok” when she joined Reneé Rapp on stage at Coachella, changing, “Wake up in the morning feelin’ like P. Diddy,” to, “Wake up in the mornin’ like, ‘F*ck P. Diddy.’” P. Diddy will probably find this shocking, as not being awake is one of his favorite qualities in someone to f*ck.

* Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, came out on Friday. The adults who’ve been forced to listen to it on an endless loop have formed The Tortured Parents Department.

* In more Taylor Swift news, she and her future ex-boyfriend Travis Kelce were spotted hanging out at Coachella with Jack Antonoff, and the rest of Bleachers. The only way to safely witness this was with a pair of eclipse glasses, because that’s far too much whiteness to view unprotected.

* Shakira announced the initial 14 dates of her 2024 North American Las Mujeres No Lloran World Tour, which will kick off on November 2nd in California. Sadly, none of the dates are in my living room even though I changed the name of it to the Bet365 Adam’s World Arena (gambling apps sponsor everything now, so I thought throwing that in would make it more believable).

* Because of The Masters golf tournament, Billy Joel’s first-ever broadcast network concert special, The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden – The Greatest Arena Run of All Time, started a half hour late, and because of a CBS faux pas of epic proportions, just as he was performing “Piano Man” the network cut to the local news. Somewhere, Ted Turner was thinking, “If it were up to me I would’ve had it run until a time that ended in a 5!”

* In an interview with the UK’s Standard, Courtney Love had some harsh critiques of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Madonna, Lana Del Rey, and Jann Wenner. I’m pretty much always on Team Courtney, but whether or not you agree with her opinions, I think her recent interview provides a great excuse to post this very ahead of the curve comment of hers from 2005 that reportedly led to her being banned by the talent agency CAA.

* Speaking of bans, Machine Gun Kelly claimed on Twitter that he’s not allowed to attend Coachella (I promise, this is the last news item that mentions Coachella), saying, “They banned me in 2012 for whatever reason.” Has he considered the fact that he’s Machine Gun Kelly might be the reason?

* Kendrick Lamar dissed Drake, and J. Cole in a verse on Future, and Metro Boomin’s song “Like That.” I feel like enough of the people involved in this are so soft that a group hug is how it will be worked out.

* Drake was dealing with more than just Kendrick’s diss this past week, as Rick Ross was also beefing with the former child actor. This particular beef, however, was about, of all things, plastic surgery, as Ross alleges Drake got a nose job. If Humpy Hump were alive today I think we all know how he’d handle this …

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
