Pop Shots – The Single(s) Life

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Katy Perry teasing a new song, to Mötley Crüe releasing the first of what will reportedly be many new singles, to two artists beefing over significant others, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Katy Perry teased a new single on social media, saying she thinks it will be one of her “biggest songs” ever. If she wants to do a long awaited follow up to “I Kissed a Girl” with “I Kissed a Bald Man” I’d be more than happy to volunteer my bald head as inspiration!

* It’s been revealed that the 2024 MTV Video Awards will be held at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY on Tuesday, September 10th. There’s no word on if the network plans on airing any actual music videos in the months leading up to the event.

* Luke Bryan slipped on a fan’s cell phone, and fell on his butt while performing in Vancouver, but not only did he get right back up, he asked another fan for their cell phone, which had video of the fall, and he had a camera zoom in on it so it could be replayed on the big screen at the back of the stage. We’re all lucky this happened to Luke Bryan, because if Nicki Minaj had fallen on her butt the resultant earthquakes might have leveled entire cities.

* Mötley Crüe released a new single titled “Dogs of War,” their first of what they say will be many under their new deal with Big Machine Records. So Mötley Crüe feels the need to release new music in 2024? Damn, how much alimony do those guys owe???

* Pitbull announced a 26 city Party After Dark Tour featuring special guest T-Pain, with Lil Jon joining in select markets. Pitbull, T-Pain, AND Lil Jon??? That’s gonna be so high energy you should have to sign a waiver before entering saying if your heart explodes they can’t be held liable.

* The Spice Girls reunited for an impromptu performance at Victoria Beckham’s 50th party. Folks, my birthday is in October, I’ll turn 46, and as far as my expectations go, the bar has just been raised!

* Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department broke her own record for the biggest streaming week by a woman. Drake is the only artist with bigger streaming weeks, holding the top two spots, and despite the number of rappers questioning his manhood, he is still, reportedly, a man.

* Quavo and Chris Brown are beefing over various women they’ve dated. Once again, that anger management course a court ordered Brown to take seems like time well spent.

* The Weeknd canceled his previously postponed 11 date stadium tour of Australia, and New Zealand. When it comes to the latter country, I think I know a duo that could easily take his place …

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
