NYC Scene Report – Typhoid Rosie, Wet, & We Are Scientists

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Typhoid Rosie feeling royal with “Queen of Hearts,” the triumphant return of Wet, who are “On Your Side,” and We Are Scientists getting a “Contact High.”

* Brooklyn-based rockers Typhoid Rosie are ready to take the throne with their upcoming album, Queen of Swords, which is due out August 13th.

The band’s frontwoman, Rosie Rebel, discussed the tarot card inspired title track in a statement, saying, “Sometimes you just gotta cut a motherfucker out of your life. Your survival, evolution, and the growth of your soul may one day depend upon whether or not you can turn your back on toxic situations.”

Rebel continued, adding, “Because my heart is so pure I didn’t always see the bad and malicious intentions of others headed towards me. Sometimes being so naive, and following your heart blindly, can lead you off a cliff. Not every person comes to the table with love in their hearts, and that is why you always need to pay attention to the red flags and be ready to make your well-being your greatest priority. Like the airline safety cards say, ‘Your oxygen mask first.’”

Click play on “Queen of Swords,” and say goodbye to the toxic people in your life.

* I first featured R&B-influenced pop trio Wet here back in 2013. The Kelly Zutrau led group ended up landing on a major label, but they recently returned to their indie roots with a brand new single titled “On Your Side.”

Discussing the song in a statement, Zutrau said. “‘On Your Side’ is about the feeling of embodying unconditional love as a special and fleeting experience. Even though it sounds contradictory – unconditional and fleeting – it’s about that duality. I often find myself in more ambivalent places in relationships, and then when it happens it’s epic, like planets and trees and rivers, and then like that it’s gone again. I think I wanted to capture it as a way of holding onto that feeling.”

Hold on to that feeling with Wet, and get reacquainted with their beautiful vibe.

* NYC indie legends We Are Scientists are back, and their new single will give you a “Contact High.”

From their upcoming album, HUFFY, which is due out October 8th, the band’s Keith Murray explained the inspiration for “Contact High” in a statement, saying, “Love songs can easily be goofy, and embarrassing, so I sometimes have a hard time writing songs that are unambiguously romantic. ‘Contact High’ really nails that heady rush of full-throttle infatuation for me, though, because it evokes my trifecta of mood-altering stimuli — dizzying romantic interaction, rousing music, and second-hand contact with psychoactive chemicals (in descending order of personal preference).”

Click play, and get high on love with We Are Scientists.
