NYC Scene Report – Tishmal, I Am Snow Angel, & more

This week’s NYC Scene Report features singer-songwriter-producer Tishmal getting “Heavy,” a sultry, ethereal, downtempto electro-pop performance from I Am Snow Angel, R&B singer Kash letting you know she’s someone to hold on to, and a dark synth-pop gem from L’FREAQ.

* You may remember the name Tishmal from when the video for her song “Underneath” was featured as a Vid Pick here back in February. You may also remember her as being a resident of Utah. What’s she doing in this week’s NYC Scene Report? Well, I have good news – she’s relocated to NYC! (OK, maybe that’s not good news for Utah, but it’s good news for us)

Tishmal’s latest single is “Heavy,” an electro-pop song that envelops the listener with its fantastic sound, and gorgeous vocals.

Click play on the track, let your mind float through her soundscape, and realize NYC just got a nice addition of indie pop cool.

* If you’ve ever seen I Am Snow Angel perform live you know how amazing it is to witness her be a one-woman-band, seamlessly going from playing her guitar, to working her samplers and laptop, to singing in her trademark breathy vocals. She’s incredibly adept at creating a vibe, and it’s a vibe you can experience by checking out her recently released live in-studio clip for her latest single, “HONEYBEE.”

It’s a great song, and an impressive performance, by an NYC-based artist whose sultry, ethereal, downtempo electro-pop sound can calm even the most caffeinated beast.

After watching the video, check out the Stacking The Deck interview we did earlier this year. I Am Snow Angel’s inspirations may surprise you.

* Last month I featured a live clip of NYC-based R&B singer Kash performing her latest single, “Don’t Let Me Go.” Now there’s an official video for the song, and lemme tell ya, it’s HOT!

With the swagger of late ‘90s/early ’00s R&B diva, and a vibe that can be described as every member of Destiny’s Child rolled into one, Kash sets the screen on fire with “Don’t Let Me Go.”

I can’t imagine anyone wanting to let go of Kash, or her music, after checking out this video. Click play, and I’m sure you’ll agree.

* L’FREAQ has become a column favorite around here with her standout EP, Weird Awakenings, and our incredibly fun Stacking The Deck interview, where we discussed everything from reggae vacations, to surviving in a zombie apocalypse.

The latest from the NYC-based dark synth-pop artist is “New Skin,” an introspective song about personal evolution that has some distinct Portishead vibes, which is pretty awesome in my book. (seriously, who doesn’t love Portishead?)

Check out the video, and embrace your new skin.
