Pop Shots – On The Receiving End Of Things

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Nicki Minaj receiving an odd gift, to Jelly Roll receiving unwanted advice, to the country artist that received a stiff rejection at the Canadian border, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Nicki Minaj described the Bible Donald Trump autographed and gave to her as, “One of the most meaningful gifts I’ve ever received in my entire life.” Christ almighty her husband really dropped the ball on Valentine’s Day, didn’t he?
* Flavor Flav invited the U.S. Women’s Olympic hockey team to party with him in Las Vegas. I’m just hoping VH1 has some cameramen there, because this could make for an amazing reboot of Flavor of Love.

* In more Olympic news, the closing ceremony of this year’s games began with a tribute to Italian lyric opera. Somewhere, Kid Rock was offended it wasn’t in English, and performed his own closing ceremony in the basement of his house.
* Eric Benét took to Instagram to chastise Jelly Roll for refusing to comment on politics at the Grammys, saying, among other things, “It’s you being a good Christian to speak out.” Yes, this is the same Eric Benét who cheated on Halle Berry multiple times telling someone else how to be “a good Christian.”
* Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn has been charged with killing his wife, and staging the crime scene to mislead investigators.

* Daughtry, who was another former American Idol contestant, hit #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with his band’s latest single, “The Bottom.” Also, he didn’t murder his wife.
* Morgan Wallen notched his 20th #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with “20 Cigarettes.” He reportedly celebrated by playing the clip of John Davidson at the BAFTA Film Awards on a loop.
* Country artist Charley Crockett was forced to cancel all of his Canadian tour dates after being denied entry into the country due to a decade old drug possession charge. In a related story, Canada will be planting drugs on all U.S. hockey players to avoid any more heartbreaking losses.

* Lee Brice called in to the Big D & Bubba radio show to discuss the backlash he’s experienced from appearing at Turning Point USA’s Super Bowl halftime show, saying, “I was never out to hurt anyone.” Well, Lee, if there’s any place to go to reach the people you may have offended I’m sure it’s the audience that tunes in to the Big D & Bubba radio show.
* Shakira gave a free concert at the Zócalo in Mexico City this past Sunday. My offer is still on the table for her to perform at the Adam’s World Arena … which is my living room. Seating capacity is probably like a dozen people, but I can clear a wall for writhing purposes!
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
