NYC Scene Report – Joy Buzzer, Kendra Morris, & S.C.A.B.

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Joy Buzzer with a playful tune asking for forgiveness, Kendra Morris extolling the virtues of going nowhere, and S.C.A.B. spreading love.

* NYC power pop band Joy Buzzer are once again bringing the fun with their latest single, “If You Can Forgive Me.”

I mean, how can you not instantly love a song that starts with the lyric, “I don’t know why I showed up shit faced to your cute soirée”?

The band explained the inspiration for song, which is out via Wicked Cool Records, saying it’s, “A fun rocker about a clueless guy who, like many clueless guys, doesn’t quite see how clueless really he is. Best advice – don’t invite him to your party.”

OK, don’t invite the drunken, offensive, vomiting guy, to the party, but definitely add “If You Can Forgive Me” to your party playlist.

* Kendra Morris, whose latest album, Next, has been spending a lot of time on my turntable, recently released a new single from the LP, titled “Go Nowhere.”

“Go Nowhere” is a soulful ode to living in the moment, but not the “being out and partying” kind of living in the moment, rather Kendra wants us to find peace, and joy in being exactly where we are, even if we aren’t actually doing anything at all.

The DIY queen made the video for “Go Nowhere” entirely herself, just like all the other videos from Next, and when you click play on it you’ll want to lay back, enjoy the four minutes, and then maybe move a few things from your to-do list to another day, because you don’t have to “Go Nowhere” if it feels good.

* NYC-based indie rockers S.C.A.B. released their third album, Somebody In New York Loves You!, last month via Grind Select, and if you’re looking for “LOVE,” you’re in the right place.

“LOVE” is the latest single from the album, and it’s all about having gratitude for everyone, and everything you value in life.

The band’s Sean Carmago explains, “This song is a reminder to myself to get clearer on what I would like to see. The roles we play. The illusion of truth. I had a tiny blue bird when I was young. You had a love, it hurt, now it’s done. Blood is your teacher now. Let go of duality.”

If you find some elements of that explanation a bit cryptic, “LOVE” is significantly clearer, so click play, and think about all the love you give, and all the love you’re surrounded with.
