NYC Scene Report – Cool Company, Colatura, & King Falcon

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Cool Company with an infomercial inspired clip, Colatura turning to the work of David Lynch as their visual muse, and King Falcon getting a little animated.
* Cool Company has been one of the … well … coolest R&B duos in NYC’s indie music scene from quite some time, and they also have a history of being creative with their music videos. Their latest, which is for their recently released single “Dangerous,” might be my favorite yet, as it was inspired by infomercials.
A hilarious send-up of some of the most awful infomercial moments blended into Cool Company’s own infomercial for a fictional Baddie Blockers product – which is intended to save you from the perils of what happens when you see a beautiful woman in the wild – the video has a number of great Easter eggs for anyone who’s seen the ads being lampooned.
I just need to know if the important item being advertised will become real enough to be available with the rest of Cool Company’s merch at their September show date at Mercury Lounge!
* Going from the hilarious to the surreal, up next is Colatura, whose video for their latest single, “(Every Time I Think About You) It’s About Me,” was inspired by the work of David Lynch.
The indie pop song is from Colatura’s upcoming EP, If I’m Being Honest, which is due out this Friday via Easy Does It Records.
The video … ya know, if there’s anything I’ve learned about anything David Lynch, or David Lynch inspired, is that it’s best to just let people watch, and attempt to figure it out for themselves.
So with Twin Peaks, Eraserhead, and Mulholland Dr. in mind, click play on Colatura’s “(Every Time I Think About You) It’s About Me,” which, incidentally, is also a fantastic song.
* If you give NYC-based rockers King Falcon a reason to tour – literally, it could be any reason – they are absolutely going to tour.
Having followed the band for a number of years, I can tell you they’re one of the hardest working groups in the scene, and possibly in all of music.
With a new single titled “Plastic Crown” having recently been released, King Falcon have been on the road throughout the month of July, and have dates booked in August, September, and October.
Discussing “Plastic Crown” in a statement, the band’s frontman, Michael Rubin, said, “‘Plastic Crown’ is about a close relationship that falls apart, and you realize how toxic of a situation it was. You don’t realize how much better life is until they are out of it.”
Check out the animated clip for the song, and then check out King Falcon when they come to a city near you. Speaking from experience, their shows are always a good time.
