Pop Shots – Don’t Do That

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Offset’s creepy admission, to Lorde flying high on MDMA, to Taylor Swift dancing for a camp full of football players, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Offset, who had been married to Cardi B, now says that Sabrina Carpenter is his celebrity crush. I feel like that’s the type of revelation that should get you banned from being within 500 feet of a school.

* In more Sabrina Carpenter related news, the diminutive singer has a new collaboration, but it isn’t with another artist, it’s with Dunkin’. Carpenter has teamed up with the eatery for a new beverage – called a strawberry dream refresher – and she’s starring in a new commercial for the donut chain, as well. Being that the Hartford Yard Goats play in Dunkin’ Park, hopefully her next collab will be with Chompers.

* Lorde revealed that she feels MDMA therapy helped her overcome stage fright. As an old guy I kinda get a kick out of younger artists trying to legitimize their drug use. It’s like, come on, in the ‘70s artists did mountains of blow before getting on stage, but I never heard the Allman Brothers claim it was medicinal.

* Billie Joe Armstrong paused a Green Day concert to rip into a member of the crowd who was reportedly shooting him with a water gun. In a related story, Billie Joe Armstrong from 1994 would kick the sh*t out of present day Billie Joe Armstrong.

* Taylor Swift appeared at Travis Kelce’s Tight End University camp, and performed “Shake It Off” for the athletes … who then probably went to a place where the women both shake it off, and take it off.

* Brandy and Monica are teaming up for a 24-city The Boy Is Mine Tour, which will kick off on October 16th in Cincinnati. If we don’t see Mekhi Phifer at all this fall, I think we’ll know why.

* Shania Twain is starring in the first commercial for Clearly Canadian sparkling water since 1991. Wait, does this mean if I drink it I’ll suddenly feel like a woman?

* The Gathering of the Juggalos announced the lineup for the 2025, 25th anniversary edition of the event. Taking place from August 13th through 16th at Legend Valley in Thornville, OH, headliners will include GWAR, Immortal Technique, and, of course ICP. Based on the number of things that will be sprayed from, and to, the various stages, you can file this one under – Places Billie Joe Armstrong Would Be Afraid To Play.

* The Dodgers scored their highest attendance number of the year when they had an Ice Cube bobblehead giveaway. I guess it was a good day.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
