Pop Shots – They Do That Now

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from a first time feat for Sabrina Carpenter, to being immersed in Bono, to a very long stay at the top for Shaboozey, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet ascended to the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart for the first time after a deluxe reissue was released. So we’ve been hearing all those songs nonstop, and nobody was buying the album until now??? Yeah, she’s never beating the payola allegations.

* In a recent interview, Tate McRae said she finds being compared to Britney Spears both “flattering, and scary.” Another word to describe it is ridiculous, being that 90% of the world couldn’t pick Tate McRae out of a lineup of two.

* Wu-Tang Clan announced their farewell tour. Named Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber, the tour will kick off June 6th in Baltimore, and currently has 27 dates scheduled. They have to beef that up to 36, in honor of 36 Chambers, right?

* Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, and Shinedown will headline this year’s Rocklahoma Festival, making it the #1 place to be if you’re a woman looking to hook up with a recently divorced dad.

* Apple Original Films will be premiering a documentary on Bono titled Bono: Stories of Surrender on May 30th, and it will be the first feature-length film available on the Apple Vision Pro in Apple Immersive Video. I assume the immersive experience involves Bono personally chastising you for driving a gas powered vehicle from the privacy of his personal jet.

* Tyler, the Creator took to Twitter to request that fans stop asking him “weird ass questions” when they see him, saying he’d prefer people just say hi, and keep it moving. I’d like to know what kind of questions qualify as weird for a guy who once ate a cockroach in a music video.

* Drake cancelled the remaining dates of his tour of Australia and New Zealand. I guess he couldn’t get them moved to all-ages venues.

* Shaboozey spent a 35th week atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” breaking the chart’s record for the most weeks at #1 for a solo artist. Since the song is really just a country version of J-Kwon’s “Tipsy,” I feel like now it’s only a matter of time before more mediocre hip-hop songs from the mid-‘00s become country hits. Dem Franchize Boyz, you’re up next!

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
