Pop Shots – Hot In Here

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco having something cooked up in their honor, to Disturbed setting fire to an NBA legacy, to Iggy Azalea getting heated at her old record label, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco now have their first date meal immortalized at the L.A. Thai restaurant Jitlada, which added the couple’s “First Date Shrimp” to the menu. McDonald’s is considering following suit and honoring Drake’s first dates with a special edition Happy Meal.

* Cam’ron addressed rumors that he’s dating Mariah Carey, saying she’s “just a friend.” The ghost of Biz Markie commented, “I’m pretty sure you missed the entire point of that song.”

* Disturbed managed to do something very few NBA legends could – defeat Michael Jordan in his prime. How did they do it? With fire, as the pyro from the band’s show at the United Center damaged the Bulls’ six championship banners, which now have to be repaired. The team expects the banners to be back up next season, but for now they’re … down with the sickness!

* There is now a Shakira museum in Mexico. The pop-up, which will be open until March 30th, is titled Shakira Estoy Aquí Experience Mexico City. This is not to be confused with the Shakira “museums” some guys have in a corner of their bedroom.

* Ed Sheeran played a surprise set at The Dubliner in Boston on St. Patrick’s Day. You gotta figure at least a handful of patrons who downed a few too many Sam Adams followed him around afterwards hoping to find a pot of gold.

* Iggy Azalea is accusing Universal Music Group of owing her millions in unpaid royalties. I guess someone’s life isn’t quite as “Fancy” as it used to be.

* Kanye West released a new album titled Bully. I’m sure his current fan base can’t wait to Goebbels it up.

* ZZ Top’s Frank Beard will be absent from the band’s current tour due to a health issue. There’s no word on if the issue is with his “Legs,” or his “Tush.”

* Producer/DJ The Dare attempted to crowd surf at his show at the Marble Factory in Bristol, England, but after he leapt from the stage the crowd parted, and he landed on the ground. Maybe next time he’ll work some Pretty Poison into his set.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
