Pop Shots – Finding A Way
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Lily Allen’s unique alternative to Spotify, to Oasis winning the war versus online ticket resellers, to Adidas and Kanye West settling their differences, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Lily Allen revealed on Twitter that selling photos of her feet has been more lucrative for her than her music being on Spotify, writing, “Imagine being an artist and having nearly 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, but earning more money from having 1000 people subscribe to pictures of your feet.” I love Lily Allen’s music, but taking what she wrote into consideration, I think I know what her next album cover should be.
* 50 Cent claims Donald Trump offered him $3 million to perform at the former president’s recent rally at Madison Square Garden. This came after Kamala Harris had rallies that featured Usher, and Beyonce. You gotta love how in the weeks before an election the candidates forget about the issues, and instead try to show us how’d they’d book Coachella.
* Diddy can add two more lawsuits to the list of things that will hopefully keep him in jail for the rest of his life. In one of the new lawsuits he’s accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a 10 year old boy in a New York City hotel room in 2005, and in the second he’s accused of sexually assaulting a 17 year old male who was attempting to be a contestant on Making the Band back in 2008. It’s impressive that we aren’t even 25 years into the 2000s, and Diddy already has the Scumbag of the Century award all wrapped up.
* At the behest of Oasis, Live Nation and SJM will be canceling more than 50,000 tickets for the band’s UK dates after finding them listed on ticket reselling platforms. The tickets will be made available again at face value through Ticketmaster … so really, face value plus so many added fees you’ll feel like you’re buying them from a ticket reseller.
* Liam Payne’s first posthumous single, a collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Sam Pounds titled “Do No Wrong,” was released this past Friday. There’s nothin’ like a post-mortem cash grab to really warm a record label CEO’s heart.
* Ice Cube, and Fat Joe each performed at World Series games in their respective cities. I guess this is what teams have to do when they don’t have a Latin pop star in-house.
* Chappell Roan confronted a photographer at the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix’s Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour film, demanding an apology for a previous altercation at a Grammy event where Roan claims the photographer yelled at her. In a related story, Roan is currently looking for someone who can clean her shoes, which are stained with the remains of all the people she’s been stepping on while on her way to the top.
* Speaking of shoes, Adidas reached an out of court settlement with Kanye West regarding the brand’s decision to cut ties with him two years ago. The agreement didn’t include any payments, but Kanye probably won’t be covering a certain Korn song anytime soon.
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
