NYC Scene Report – Warren Britt and Greg Furlong, Sarah Bernstein, & Sister Thieves
This week’s NYC Scene Report features Warren Britt and Greg Furlong teaming up to meet “Dracula On The Beach,” Sarah Bernstein having “The Feel,” and Sister Thieves wanting us to “BE BAD.”
* Warren Britt, and Greg Furlong are two of my favorite people in NYC’s indie music scene. Warren has been a mainstay here over the past 15 years, and I’ve featured Greg here a number of times since I met him in 2021 when he was in the punk rock band Power Trash.
Little did I know, while I was admiring their work, they were admiring each other’s work, as well.
Now, finally, Warren’s emcee skills, and Greg’s multi-instrumentalist rock skills have come together for a single titled “Dracula On The Beach.”
A true labor of love, the song was recorded over the course of half a dozen sessions taking place between December of 2022 and July of this year.
On the song, Warren is non-stop on the mic, as he rhymes for nearly the entire 4:23 run time, with no chorus, while Greg plays six different instruments (not all at once. He’s talented, but that would be impossible).
If you’re anything like me, after hearing “Dracula On The Beach” your first thought will be – these guys needs to make a project together!
* Sarah Bernstein has a way of writing, and performing, indie pop songs that make them feel like they could have been on Top 40 radio in the ‘90s, and ‘00s. Her latest to have that feel is, well … “The Feel.”
“The Feel” is about the X factor so many people talk about in music, as Bernstein sings, “They’ll make the noise, but you’ve got the feel / Some kind of magnetic appeal.”
I would argue that Bernstein herself has “The Feel,” as every time she releases something new I rush to click play.
Check out her DIY video for “The Feel,” and hear why Sarah Bernstein is always worth getting excited about.
* NYC-based electronic doom rock duo Sister Thieves just released an EP titled CRAWL, and on the latest single from the project they’re begging us to “BE BAD.”
Imagine a mixture of Depeche Mode, and heavy grunge, with a blistering guitar, and female vocals, and you start to hit the tip of the iceberg of “BE BAD,” a song so impressive its iceberg could sink the Titanic.
For the video for “BE BAD” the Sister Thieves duo of Steph and Aaron kept it in house, with Steph directing and editing the clip, which is just as wonderfully eerie as the song.
Click play on the video, and “BE BAD” with Sister Thieves.
