Pop Shots – Well, It Is Fall

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Fat Joe’s remarkable weight loss, to Darius Rucker and Olivia Rodrigo taking tumbles on stage, to the latest concoction from Snoop and Dr. Dre that may leave you stumbling, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Speaking to Us Weekly, Fat Joe revealed that using Ozempic, along with making dietary changes, has helped him maintain his 200 pound weight loss. I guess that’s one way to get your “Lean Back.”

* Billie Eilish partnered with the New York City MTA ahead of her October 16th through 18th shows at MSG to promote using public transportation to get to the arena. I think this means her opening acts were technically a random flasher, and a guy who yelled “It’s showtime!” before accidentally kicking someone in the face.

* During an appearance on the More to the Story podcast Bow Wow decided he really wanted to incriminate himself, commenting on how sad he was that Diddy’s parties were no longer part of the scene. The rapper said of the disgraced mogul, “He’s like the gatekeeper to the game, to the point to where BET Award weekend, like the past two, it just didn’t feel right because there was no motion, there was no parties.” He continued to lament the lack of Diddy events, adding, “It’s like a hole.” Speaking of holes, Diddy can’t wait to see Bow Wow’s again.

* Mariah Carey revealed to the Las Culturistas podcast that she hasn’t forgotten about the alt-rock LP she was working on in 1995 while recording her Daydream album. This begs the question – what can we do to help her forget about it???

* Darius Rucker fell while performing at a Hootie & the Blowfish concert in South Carolina, and after being helped up the 58 year old joked that he’s “old as fuck.” On the other side of the planet, Olivia Rodrigo fell through a hole in the stage at a concert in Melbourne, Australia. She’s only 21, but I think her excuse should be that she was unaware she was performing in a Roadrunner cartoon.

* 50 Cent announced his first-ever Las Vegas residency, which will consist of six shows at PH Live at Planet Hollywood that will run from late December through early January. Maybe we’ll finally get that 50 Cent / Tom Jones collaboration everyone has always dreamed about … or is that just me?

* Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have launched Still G.I.N. gin. This makes me wonder – why am I not receiving samples of all these new adult beverages released by musicians? I could write the booziest column ever!

* Shakira tied Enrique Iglesias for the most #1s on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart when her latest single, “Soltera,” became her 25th song to reach the top spot. If she wants to break that tie, I suggest calling a certain Mets infielder.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
