NYC Scene Report – Kayla Silverman, Rebounder, & Grimm Jack

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Kayla Silverman feeling “Heaven Can Wait,” Rebounder wanting someone “All String Attached,” and Grimm Jack not leaving us “Waiting.”

* For NYC, by way of Boston, indie pop artist Kayla Silverman, “Heaven Can Wait.”

A phenomenal song with a wonderful sound, “Heaven Can Wait” mixes Silverman’s influences of art pop, and the traditionally dichotomous genres of electronic music, and classical music.

When it comes to the lyrics of the relationship-not-happening song, Silverman says “‘Heaven Can Wait’ is from the perspective of the experience of the other woman, but it is also about the all-too-familiar need to love, and to be loved, so much so that one will actively throw aside their sense of pride, and self. Love should not be that hard, but for many women like me, it is.”

Love may be hard, but it isn’t hard to love “Heaven Can Wait.” This is the type of song that should be in heavy rotation on Top 40 radio.

* Speaking of relationships, NYC-based sibling band Rebounder is looking for one with “All Strings Attached.”

“All Strings Attached” is off the band’s upcoming EP, Sundress Songs, which is due out this Friday, and musically the inspiration for the song came from, of all things, classic heist movies.

“We had a weekend where we watched 1960’s Ocean’s Eleven, and then 2001’s (version of the film),” frontman Dylan Chenfeld said in a statement, “both scores are so fantastic, we wanted to make something that musically sat in there.”

With that in mind, consider “All Strings Attached” a huge success, but don’t worry, the only thing Rebounder is going to steal is a place in your playlist.

* If you like your rock n roll to have a classic feel to it, and your lead singers to sound like they’ve lived life, and their vocals are drenched in whiskey, believe it or not there’s a band for you in NYC! Their name is Grimm Jack, and they recently released a single titled “Waiting.”

“Waiting” sounds like it would fit into a playlist of everything from ‘70s Aerosmith, to AC/DC, to Alice Cooper, and the band described their current work in a statement, saying, “We feel that we hit a stride of writing songs that resonate with our past, and musicians that we admired … so crank up ‘Waiting,’ and rock on!!!”

After hearing the Grimm Jack fivesome of Billy Kohout, Jimmie Mack, Joey Masters, GG Zen-Garten, and Rich Yaniro (wait, no one named Jack???), I have to say that’s some solid advice, so don’t delay, crank up “Waiting,” and rock on!
