Pop Shots – Vices
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from boozing it up with Beyonce, to Ice Spice saying she’s (weight loss) drug free, to Jay-Z relaunching his 40/40 club with an all new way to go home broke, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Beyonce launched SirDavis whiskey, which is in honor of her great-grandfather. A bottle will reportedly cost $89, so I guess I’ll stick to honoring Evan Williams, and Jim Beam.
* After being a sponsor of the Olympic women’s water polo team, Flavor Flav is now promoting the GoFundMe page for a Paralympian’s parents to travel to Paris for the Paralympic Games. I’m not sure when Flavor Flav turned into one of the greatest humans on the planet, but I’m glad I’m here to see it.
* Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. I think J.Lo is just fighting fate at this point. Find Ice Cube, and go hunt giant f*cking snakes together!
* Machine Gun Kelly revealed that a hard hitting conversation with his 15 year old daughter pushed him to get sober. I make fun of MGK a lot here, mostly because his music is awful, but this … this is great, and I wish him the best in his sobriety. Maybe his music will suck less now (sorry, I couldn’t resist).
* Lorde is back in the studio working on new music. Everyone is really excited about loving the project the week of its release, and then forgetting about it altogether.
* Ice Spice took to X Spaces to shoot down rumors that she’s taking Ozempic for weight loss. Meanwhile, back in my day …
* Jay-Z announced his 40/40 Club will be relaunched in 2025, and will have Fanatics Sportsbook integration, allowing people to place live bets as they’re watching games. Having been to the original 40/40 a number of times, I just have to ask – were the drink prices not draining people’s wallets quickly enough???
* The Black Crowes were originally scheduled to support Aerosmith on the rock legends’ farewell tour, but with that tour cancelled, Chris Robinson and crew have announced their own tour, which will begin in September. Personally, I’m still waiting for them to link up with Sheryl Crow, and Counting Crows, for the Something to Really Crow About tour.
* The NFL will be hosting a game in São Paulo for the first time ever on September 6th, and Brazil’s Anitta will perform for the halftime show. That’s great and all, but as a Mets fan, I have a middle infielder who puts on a show every night!
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
