Pop Shots – Timing is Everything

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Ice Spice releasing her debut album, to Adam Levine’s return to The Voice, to remembering a member of 2 Live Crew, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Last year’s it girl, Ice Spice, will be releasing her debut album, Y2K, on July 26th. Ah yes, there’s nothing like striking while the iron is not.

* Miley Cyrus made gym goers, and personal trainers everywhere cringe when she told W Magazine that she works out wearing high heels, with her reasoning being she practices how she performs. Cyrus added she also wants to change gyms entirely, saying, “I’m interested in feminizing the workout space, because so much of the workout equipment is ugly.” There’s nothing like someone who once rode an inflatable penis on stage, and slid down a slide that was made to look like her tongue, deciding they should be an arbiter of beauty, and taste.

* Adam Levine will be returning as a coach on The Voice for the show’s upcoming 27th season. Apparently he was tired of people wondering, “Whatever happened to Adam Levine?”

* Simon Cowell will be holding auditions for his next boy band, and the process will be filmed for a potential documentary series. Lou Pearlman is also looking to put together his next boy band, and those auditions are being held in his current location – the depths of hell. (just because he’s dead doesn’t mean I can’t make the joke)

* All four members of ABBA were honored with one of the most prestigious knighthoods in Sweden, the Order of the Vasa, from the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf. I’m not entirely sure of the perks this honor bestows on them, but I’m pretty sure they now get to jump the line at any Medieval Times.

* JoJo will be releasing a memoir titled Over the Influence on September 17th. While she describes the book as “raw,” I guarantee you it won’t have nearly as much about cancerous testicle removal as my memoir!

* Halsey took to social media to announce a new song, and album, and based on the lyrics and images she posted, she’s had a rough few years. While she didn’t specify her ailments, she wrote, “long story short, i’m lucky to be alive. short story long, I wrote an album. It begins with The End. out now.” She also posted the social media handles for the Lupus Research Alliance, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. As a veteran of infusion rooms, a few of the photos were very recognizable to me, so while she may be “Bad at Love,” we can all be happy she’s great at making a tremendous comeback.

* Dance headliner Illenium was called out for using AI to design a flier for his four-night run at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Thinking you can use AI when you’re promoting shows at a venue that bears the name of a man associated with some of the most iconic tour poster artwork of all-time is really a special kind of stupid. AI could never create something like THIS

* During Bebe Rexha’s recent show in Green Bay she had to stop her performance to direct security to escort a concert goer out who was seen throwing things at the stage. The only thing I’d throw at the stage during a Bebe Rexha show would be myself … wearing a shirt that says “How YOU doin’?” My game is strong, right?

* Finally, in sad news, Brother Marquis of 2 Live Crew passed away at the age of 58. He will be fondly remembered by those of us who used to sneak a listen to the radio late at night in hopes of hearing “Me So Horny.”

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
