Pop Shots – Make It Stop

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Halsey putting a halt to her relationship, to Meghan Trainor saying way too much, to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame having trouble with the definition of rock and roll, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Halsey and Alev Aydin have split up, but are reportedly committed to co-parenting their one-year-old son. Who could’ve possibly predicted things wouldn’t have worked out for the singer who gave us “Bad at Love”?

* The Country Music Hall of Fame unveiled a Taylor Swift Eras exhibit, and added pieces of her wardrobe to their Taylor Swift Education Center. I’m sorry, there’s a Taylor Swift Education Center? We’re all thinking the same thing, right?

* Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner were spotted together at a Met Gala afterparty. This is crazy, because I had no idea Bad Bunny had a contract with an NBA team.

* Meghan Trainor spoke in graphic detail about her sex life with husband Daryl Sabara on an episode of the couple’s podcast, Workin’ On It. Nothin’ says “my latest single totally flopped” like feeling the need to talk about your sex life in public. Also, who is the audience for a Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara podcast?

* Adele’s video for “Someone Like You” has surpassed two billion views on YouTube. OK, but if that video has two billion views, this one should have ten billion views

* The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2023 class of inductees, and the group consists of Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, The Spinners, DJ Kool Herc, Link Wray, Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, Bernie Taupin, and Don Cornelius. Good thing there’s one actual rock band in there so the museum can live up to its name.

* Gordon Lightfoot passed away at the age of 84. Pretty much every singer-songwriter on the planet owes him an incredible debt of gratitude for his influence. His musical legacy will endure for as long as people play the acoustic guitar.

* Bonnie Raitt had to reschedule a number of tour dates after announcing she needs to have surgery for an undisclosed medical situation. An undisclosed medical situation? Even when she isn’t performing she gives us something to talk about.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
