3 Reasons You Should See Razor Braids Live

Razor Braids are an NYC-based rock band that have been making a name for themselves over the past year-plus, so when I heard they were having a show at Arlene’s Grocery I hopped on a train, ready to rock out.

On this particular night they were in the middle of a three band bill, having the task of not just wowing their own fans, but winning over everyone who was there for the first act and decided to stick around, and everyone who was there waiting for the headliner. It’s a situation where a band can gain a lot of new fans as long as they have an awesome set.

Razor Braids had an awesome set.

Here are three reasons you should see them live.

1. Their range goes from breathy cool to face melting rock

Razor Braids started their set with a melodic, low key song, and I found it to be both an interesting, and brilliant decision. Yes, most of us were there to rock out, but the gorgeous opener caught everyone attention, and brought a hush over the crowd. Conversations stopped, and people focused on what was happening on stage.

From there, the foursome launched into a set that displayed their full range, ramping all the way up to some of the most blistering rock you’re going to hear. In fact, I have a feeling that if money weren’t a factor there’d have been at least one guitar smashed after their final song. I mean, they came pretty close …

2. Everyone has a great time

Even keeping their guitars in tact, the joyful theatrics of the four members of Razor Braids were a lot of fun, and the feeling was infectious, as they had the entire crowd really into everything that was happening on stage.

Simply put – Razor Braids were having a great time, and because of that so was everyone else.

How can you not have a great time when you see four musicians having a blast while absolutely killing it?

As an aside, they were also amazing with their fans after the show, spending lots of time in their merch area saying hi, and taking photos.

3. The band is truly a team

As anyone who’s ever watched an episode of Behind the Music, or Breaking the Band, knows, rock groups can oftentimes feature a power struggle. That is not the case with Razor Braids, and I think the reason for this is twofold.

First, they seem like they genuinely love seeing each other shine. When one member is crushing it, the other members are enjoying every second of it.

Second, they all dressed in the same color red, and it made for a striking image of a band that’s, in a word – together. You couldn’t possibly imagine them as singular entities. They’re Razor Braids.

Some bands feature an obvious hierarchy, but with Razor Braids, everyone seems to be on the same level, and with their outfits I think they were making a point of this. Rather than having a singular queen bee, each member is a queen of her particular domain (which in this case is their instruments).

Four queens makes for a great hand in poker, and in the case of Razor Braids, an excellent live music experience.
