NYC Scene Report – Car Astor, Emmrose, & Matt Kiss

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Car Astor going acoustic, Emmrose reminiscing about when “The Grass Was Greener,” and Matt Kiss giving us a break-up anthem.

* Saying an artist can do it all has become a bit of a cliche, but when it comes to Car Astor, she’s proving that in her case it’s actually true.

Previously she’s given us everything from electro-pop gems, to fantastic alt-rock songs. Her latest single, “Everything Stays Unspoken,” goes in yet another direction. A gorgeous acoustic folk-pop song, “Everything Stays Unspoken” is as beautiful as it is emotional.

Back in January, Astor did an entire acoustic set at Mercury Lounge, and with just her voice and a guitar (and a stool to sit on) she had the crowd’s full attention. Check out “Everything Stays Unspoken” and I think you’ll understand why.

* Singer-songwriter Emmrose may be young, but she has a wisdom beyond her years. With her latest single, “The Grass Was Greener,” one might even consider her a bit of an old soul.

As she sings, “It’s true things are clearer, but the grass was greener … then,” the combination of her vocals, and her songwriting, could easily draw comparisons to Alison Sudol (A Fine Frenzy), and that’s a heck of an artist to be compared to!

Check out “The Grass Was Greener,” and reminisce with Emmrose.

* It’s time to get Reacquainted with singer-songwriter Matt Kiss, whose latest EP, Reacquainted, was just released at the end of July.

The lead single off the EP is the break-up anthem “Somebody Else’s Problem,” and not since Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” have we had such an intense “you blew it and I don’t want you back” song.

Click play, and hear Matt Kiss give an ex a last kiss goodbye, saying she’s now “Somebody Else’s Problem.”
