Vid Pick: HEIRSOUND – Proud
Friday, May 26, 2017

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve seen NYC-based alt-pop duo HEIRSOUND featured here a number of times. They’ve been a mainstay in my NYC Scene Report, and I even premiered a video of theirs on Myspace.

The duo’s latest is “Proud,” the video for which will make you want to be invited to a HEIRSOUND party (although it seems as though the guest list is really exclusive).

“Proud” is off of the first of a three-volume collection of EPs titled Layers. While HEIRSOUND’s previous project, Merge, embraced a color theme, Layers has an anatomical theme, with the EPs being Vol. 1 [Skin], Vol. 2 [Muscle], and Vol. 3 [Bone] (Vol. 1 [Skin] is available now, with the other two EPs due out this spring).

HEIRSOUND’s Alexa San Román says of leading things off with “Proud,” “Sitting at the front of the Layers collection, 'Proud' is not representative of the majority of the story that follows in Layers, but a short moment in time that we coped with through writing it. Essentially it is the forward of this story, sitting by itself right before Chapter 1."

Like most great stories, “Proud” gives listeners every indication that, musically speaking, Layers will be a page-turner.
