Vid Pick: Sum - Oblivion
Sum has been one of the most creative artists in hip-hop for quite some time, so it should come as no surprise that his latest single, “Oblivion,” is a winner. Produced by Blockhead, and featuring Cooper Gillespie on the bass, “Oblivion” features Sum at his conceptual best. The first verse of “Oblivion” has Sum in a spaceship that’s about to cease being operational, while Sum’s “trying to finish my journal, knowing no one will read it.” He leads off the second verse saying, “Just in case I don’t return, this will be my deepest passage,” and follows that up in both the second and third verses with a critique of modern society, while still in the character of a space traveler knowing his journey will be ending in oblivion.
The video is also on point, as Sum’s spaceship is pretty amazing. Who knew oblivion could be so cool?
