Pop Shots – Going Places

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from going to bed with BLACKPINK’s Rosé, to going to eat with Mariah Carey, to Olivia Rodrigo going everywhere in 2022, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* BLACKPINK’s Rosé has collaborated with the mediation and sleep app Calm for her own bedtime story titled “Grounded With Rosé.” “Grounded With Rosé” is also the fantasy of thousands of teenage boys.

* Despite human rights activists calling on him to cancel the show, Maple Leif Garrett, aka Justin Bieber, performed in the Red Sea city of Jiddah in Saudi Arabia. Even with all the human rights violations going on Saudi Arabia, the crowd was probably safer there than at the Astroworld Festival.

* Sean “Diddy” Combs is hoping to buy back his Sean John fashion line from the brand’s now-bankrupt owner. If Diddy really wants to buy back Sean John he should just go to his local Goodwill. He’ll find plenty of it there.

* BTS announced that after they’ve fulfilled their current obligations they’ll be taking an “extended period of rest.” Do you think they know one of their k-pop counterparts now has an app for that?

* Mariah Carey unveiled the first commercial for her upcoming Mariah Menu at McDonald’s. She’ll be following this up with her next big holiday song – “All I Want for Christmas is Coronary Bypass Surgery.”

* Speaking of Mariah’s stranglehold on the holiday season, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has achieved two more milestones, reaching 1 billion streams on Spotify, and having been certified diamond by the RIAA. Little know fact – the song is actually “All I Want For Christmas Is Ewe,” because Mariah is such a huge fan of sheep. (Of course, this isn’t true, but I’d love to spark something that results in Mariah Carey receiving thousands of sheep each Christmas).

* Olivia Rodrigo announced a 40-date 2022 tour that will begin in North America on April 2nd, and conclude in Europe on July 7th, at which point she may, or may not, still be relevant.

* The Jonas Brothers released the first episode of their Moments Between the Moments miniseries this past Tuesday on Watch Together via Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Watch. I want to mock this, but I feel like the Jonas Brothers are the only kids to make it out of Disney and turn into actual well-adjusted human beings. Of course, there’s still time to find out they’re all in a cult. They did have those “purity rings.”

* Amazon Studios, Davis Entertainment, and Malcolm D. Lee’s Blackmaled Productions are partnering on a film that will be a musical based on the songs of Boyz II Men. It will be the first musical guaranteed to get everyone who watches it pregnant.

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
