Vid Pick: Illus - Make Some Noize Remix

If you’re an old school hip-hop head, the kind of fan who preferred when the beats were made to shake your speakers, and the lyrics were intended to make you move, Illus is one of the few current emcees that will speak to you. His latest is a remix of his song “Make Some Noize,” and it will evoke the kind of feelings you had when you were watching Yo! MTV Raps back in the day. While the original version of the song was produced by J.J. Brown, and released on the For Adam LP, this remix was produced by ICBM, and is featured on the limited edition Who’s ILLUS? vinyl 12 inch. The four elements of hip-hop (emceeing, DJing, b-boying, and graffiti art) are all represented in the video, and Illus even makes a nice reference to one of his other passions, comic book art, when he says that he’s the “rap Jack Kirby.” “Make Some Noize” will remind you of better times, and also let you know there are still some artists out there who make music us older heads can love.
