Vid Pick: Hopie Spitshard - Heartbeats
Friday, January 18, 2013

By now you know I tend to like my hip-hop a little on the experimental side. This is not to say there’s anything wrong with the classic boom bap sound. I’ve been known to crank the classics at obscenely high levels, but if we’re to move forward we need artists to try new and different things. Hopie Spitshard is one of my favorites when it comes to musical experimentation in hip-hop, and “Heartbeats,” with is 80s synths marrying modern hip-hop bass lines, fits the bill for something decidedly different and dope. Throw in the fact that Hopie is nice on the mic, and the video features a radically unique view of beauty, and “Heartbeats” is something every hip-hop fan can fall in love with.
