Pop Shots – Doin’ It Real Big

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Tate McRae dominating a Billboard chart, to Taylor Swift buying back her masters, to Jin wanting to work with one of pop’s greatest hitmakers, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Tate McRae scored her third #1 song on Billboard’s recently created Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart with her latest single, “Just Keep Watching.” In a related story, I’m undefeated at still not knowing who the f*ck Tate McRae is.
* Heart’s Nancy Wilson had her custom guitar stolen while the band was in Atlantic City, but the instrument was quickly recovered by New Jersey police. Snooki could not be reached for comment.

* Miley Cyrus revealed her Bangerz era persona created an intense strain on all of her personal relationships, many of which fell apart due to her on stage antics. With all due respect to Miley, did you really have to ride a giant inflatable penis in front of 20,000 people to figure out that it’s a bad idea?
* Ice Spice has been cast for an upcoming SpongeBob Squarepants movie. OK, I gotta ask – who is this for???
* Macklemore’s Seattle home was the target of a robbery, with thieves stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, shoes, and designer watches. Hmm … that doesn’t sound like the kind of stuff you get at a thrift shop.

* Taylor Swift bought back the rights of her first six albums. So over the course of the past six years she convinced her fan base to buy re-recorded versions of albums they already own, and merch affiliated with those albums, only to then make those albums obsolete by buying back the masters to the original albums. I’m not saying she’s a scam artist, but I wouldn’t advise playing three card monte with Taylor Swift.
* Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and Three 6 Mafia will be teaming up for 2025 North American tour that will include Tech N9ne, and DJ Quik as special guests. In the immortal words of Jerry Maguire – Who’s comin’ with me?
* Karol G announced her fifth studio album, Tropicoqueta, will be coming soon. In a related story, I would just like to say …

* BTS member Jin said he’d love to collaborate with Bruno Mars. You mean he wants to work with the guy who literally always goes to #1 every time he releases a song? Shocking!
* The iconic Sly Stone passed away at the age of 82. Even if you aren’t familiar with the music of Sly and the Family Stone (and if you aren’t, please give their songs a listen), I guarantee you have a favorite artist who’s been influenced by their classic tunes.
That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
