NYC Scene Report – Sabrina Song, Shilpa Ray, & Cash Bribe

This week’s NYC Scene Report features Sabrina Song being deserving of a leading role, Shilpa Ray ghosting us, and Cash Bribe giving everyone a lesson in “Demonomics.”

* If you’ve ever heard the gorgeous voice of singer-songwriter Sabrina Song you know she should be front and center, and never be relegated to being someone’s “Background Actor.”

The latest single from Song, “Background Actor” is the first new music she’s released since last year’s You Could Stay In One Spot, and I’d Love You The Same LP, which came out last June. When debuting the single on social media she wrote, “Sometimes you just have to let yourself be upset and make a bratty song about it.”

Bratty, but beautiful, “Background Actor” is a great breakup song, and a reminder that we are all deserving of leading role.

* Shilpa Ray is a name longtime readers should remember, as I first wrote about her here back in 2014, and lauded her Door Girl album as one of the best of 2017.

Recently she’s released a few new singles, and while they’re just as strong as ever, the subject matter has changed a bit. Her focus now is on decidedly grown up, and even middle-aged themes. Take, for example, “I’m A Ghost.” “I’m A Ghost” deals with when adult friendships fall apart, and how pulling away from someone is sometimes the healthy choice.

Click play on the song, because with powerhouse vocals that are reminiscent of great singer-songwriters, and rock queens of the past, when Shilpa sings about walking out of someone’s life, it’s clear she’s walking standing tall with her head held high.

* Don’t you just hate it when you arrive home, and find a demon dancing in your stairwell?

That’s what happened to Cash Bribe in the punk rock / hardcore band’s video for their recently released single “Demonomics.”

A punch in the face to the ruling billionaire class, the blistering pace of the song, and sense of urgency in frontman Joey Dahlstrom vocals, and delivery, make “Demonomics” a potentially riot inducing gem.

The song is the title track of their third EP, which was released this past Friday via Futureless.

Click play on “Demonomics,” and create a spontaneous mosh pit wherever you are.
