NYC Scene Report – Hannah Gill, VÉRITÉ, & more

This week’s NYC Scene Report is all about the ladies, as it features the latest from soulful songstress Hannah Gill, a brand new video from indie pop fave VÉRITÉ, an empowering pop anthem from Cassandra Kubinski, and TOMI rockin’ out just like her inspirations.

* Hannah Gill is an NYC artist whose vocals make it seem as though she’s from another time. Her brand of smokey, classic soul sounds like it’s straight out of the city’s jazz scene in the ‘40s.

Gill’s latest single is “Lose,” which is off of her new EP, Lost In Words, which was released last month. You can see her perform songs from the EP live as Gill is hitting the road for select tour dates in May, June, and August, including a hometown show at Rockwood Music Hall on June 7th, and you can check out the video for “Lose” right here.

* NYC-based indie-pop fave VÉRITÉ is giving fans nothing … but that’s a good thing, because, in this case, “Nothing” is the latest single from her full length debut, Somewhere In Between.

The video for “Nothing” is filled with tour footage, both from the stage, and from behind the scenes, as VÉRITÉ notes, “This was one of the best tours I've ever done. Every show was amazing, and I was able to meet so many genuinely engaged and excited people, and those feelings were absolutely contagious.”

You can catch VÉRITÉ live again at Billboard’s Hot 100 Fest in New York on August 18th, and you can check out “Loose” right here.

* Cassandra Kubinski has heard a lot about the rules people are supposed to live by, and with her latest single, “You Never Told Me,” the NYC-based indie singer-songwriter has crafted a pop anthem based on breaking those rules.

“If you make your own rules, this is for you,” Kubinski says of “You Never Told Me,” adding, “Boldness is infectious.”

Infectious can be a synonym for catchy, and after one play of “You Never Told Me” I think you’ll find it’s one heck of a catchy song.

* Brooklyn-based artist TOMI is about to make some big waves, as this past week she released an EP titled What Kind Of Love via RCA Records.

The title track of What Kind Of Love is a rock song laced with classic synths, and TOMI showing the kind of boldness, and attitude we love to see in our rock n roll artists.

In a statement, she said of the video for “What Kind Of Love,” “I grew up inspired by Hole, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and all of the badass frontwomen. I wanted this video to be just me, my guitar and a lightbulb microphone.”

Click play, and see TOMI fully embracing her badass-ness.
