NYC Scene Report – Talullah Ruff, Sophia Bastian, & more

This week’s NYC Scene Report features an impressive debut from pianist/singer-songwriter Talullah Ruff, the sultry soul of Sophia Bastian, EVHO giving us something to rock out to, and singer-songwriter Rosi Golan teaming up with actress Sarah Booth for a music video that kicks some serious ass.

* Who doesn’t love a great pianist/singer-songwriter? Every handful of years we fully embrace one such artist, be it Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, or Alicia Keys. The next in this line may be NYC’s Talullah Ruff.

Ruff’s debut EP, What Is Honest, is due out next month, and the title track is a roller coaster of music, and emotions. There are dips, turns, rises, falls, and impressive climaxes throughout five-plus minutes of the song.

Check out Ruff’s bold debut, and be able to say you knew about her first.

* Looking for some gorgeous, smokey, sultry, soul? Then look no further than NYC’s Sophia Bastian. Her latest single, “Rhythm To My Heart,” is sure to put you in the mood for … well, let’s just say extracurricular activities.

Bastian has been steadily climbing the ladder of success since her debut EP, Juvenile Blues, was released five years ago. Most recently, her 2016 single, “Blind Ambition,” became a Spotify hit, accumulating over half a million streams.

If you haven’t heard Bastion before, catch her “Rhythm” right here.

* New York-based rockers EVHO are bouncing some new music off of listeners with their latest single, “Ricochet.”

In a statement, EVHO said of the song, “The lyrics to the song ‘Ricochet’ were written when the band went on their first two-month long tour of the US. The song is about running away from your problems, and then coming back to rebuild yourself to become complete again. That’s ‘Ricochet.'"

“Ricochet” is off of EVHO’s upcoming album, From the Sun (release date TBD), and you can check out the video for it right here.

* Israeli-born, Brooklyn-based, singer-songwriter Rosi Golan is readying the release of her new album, Collecting Bullets, due out this Friday, and in anticipation of this she’s hitting listeners with a little slice of pop perfection in the form of her single “Underneath.”

With hints of ‘80s influences, while still sounding decidedly modern, “Underneath” is the kind of song that continually gets better with each play, and that you actually enjoy having stuck in your head.

The video for “Underneath” stars actress – and judging by the clip, all-around badass – Sarah Booth in a series of training montages.

Click play and get your Rocky on to the sweet sounds of Rosi Golan.
