Vid Pick: RMe - Just Cuz
Friday, May 02, 2014

Watching RMe's video for "Just Cuz" may lead you to believe this is a lost classic, a song, and video, you somehow missed back in the day. You'll kick yourself for not knowing it. With Keith Haring's iconic "Crack Is Wack" mural in the background, and RMe rhyming over a beat that's straight out of the old school, "Just Cuz" has a feel, both visually, and musically, that will remind you of your favorite songs, and artists, of the past. You can stop kicking yourself, though, because the song is new. In fact, it's off of RMe's most recent album, Loud.

Sometimes when an artist looks to harness the feel of the past they put a modern spin on it to let listeners know the song is current. In RMe's case, however, I'm really happy they kept the entire vibe old school. The result is something that sounds like it would fit in perfectly with a playlist of the artists they probably grew up listening to, and that show of skill puts them in rare company.

B-Listers are a select group of artists that were featured in my Artist Of The Week series that ran every Monday from April of '06 to April of '11. All of these artists have two things in common; extreme talent, and a flight path far too under the radar for my liking. They took on the title of B-Listers as they embraced being featured by me, Adam B. Check out the AOTW Archives for all the interviews.
