Vid Pick: Joey Batts & Them - 860
Friday, May 03, 2013

Last weekend I had the pleasure of seeing Joey Batts perform in Bridgeport, CT. Before the show he was carrying around a giant art pad, the kind a sketch artist would put on an easel, and he was asking everyone to write down a word, or phrase, for him to rhyme about. He ended up with four pages of suggestions, and got through every single one of them in a freestyle. It was really very cool. Also very cool, Joey’s video for his song “860.” The song celebrates everything in his area code, from local delicacies, to sports teams, to random towns. A personal favorite line of mine is “We got Brooklyn... the fake one.” Watching this video it’s easy to see how much effort, and travel, went into putting it together, and the result is something pretty special. Check it out.
