It’s been a little while since I’ve posted something from Substantial, and I think it’s time to right that. Substantial is an emcee who commands a listener’s attention, not through aggressiveness, but through his deep vocals, and masterful flow. There’s a Guru-like smoothness to his tone, and delivery. In fact, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Substantial fitting in well in that era of hip-hop, in rotation alongside the likes of Gang Starr. Thankfully for current hip-hop fans, he’s in our era, and “See Hear,” off of his 2012 release, Home Is Where The Art Is, is a perfect example of everything he can do. It’s music that matters, that you’ll also want to listen to, as Substantial continues make music with substance and soul.
B-Listers are a select group of artists that were featured in my Artist Of The Week series that ran every Monday from April of '06 to April of '11. All of these artists have two things in common; extreme talent, and a flight path far too under the radar for my liking. They took on the title of B-Listers as they embraced being featured by me, Adam B. Check out the AOTW Archives for all the interviews.
