A lot of artists talk about paying dues, but Big Stat could teach a PhD level course on it. He’s been on his grind for close to a decade, and in that time he’s made great inroads for himself, including having toured with the likes of Method Man, Redman, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah. In addition to his own tours, he’s logged literally hundreds of thousands of miles traveling to concerts and radio stations just to make connections. With all that in mind, “Paid My Dues” isn’t just a song, it’s the culmination of all his hard work. It’s also another shining example of how far Big Stat has come as an emcee. As ferocious and determined as ever, it makes sense that he’s using the past tense in the title, because he’s paid his dues, and it’s his time to shine.
B-Listers are a select group of artists that were featured in my Artist Of The Week series that ran every Monday from April of '06 to April of '11. All of these artists have two things in common; extreme talent, and a flight path far too under the radar for my liking. They took on the title of B-Listers as they embraced being featured by me, Adam B. Check out the AOTW Archives for all the interviews.
