Remixing the Fan Experience: A Panel Discussion

On Saturday, November 10th I moderated a panel I put together for the third annual RE/Mixed Media Festival called Remixing the Fan Experience. The idea stemmed from the reality that just fifteen years ago being a music fan meant waiting in line at midnight at a record store for your favorite artist’s latest album on its release date, and camping out for concert tickets, but now albums are downloaded at the click of a mouse, and not only can you buy concert tickets online, many shows are live-streamed. This ease of use has resulted in less fandom, and in turn, less sales, and Remixing the Fan Experience covered a number of topics relating to this, including

* The definition of a fan in 2012
* The difference between a “like” and liking an artist
* How Kickstarter affects the artist-fan relationship

I did my best with the audio, although I’m not a pro, so you may have to turn up your speakers. I also think headphones might help the listening experience.
