If I wasn't such an optimist I'd have died of depression by now

To say times are tough would be an understatement. Arista Records will be no more come April. 170 people will be losing their jobs, including some I've known personally for years. Arista isn't the only label with problems, however, two other labels have made cuts this month, as well. It's a sad state of affairs in the music industry right now. It's like I'm trying to get my foot in the door just as they're closing it while kicking people out. I have a feeling it may get worse before it gets better, but there's not much I can do except keep on keepin on. Hey, at least I have fairly big feet.

When it comes to the city, I basically just hung out with some friends. Friday sort of set the tone for the weekend as a whole, not anything wild or exciting. In fact, I stayed in the entire weekend. It was a lot like last weekend, two days to relax my mind, chill out, and watch a couple games. How old did I feel watching Maryland beat Duke today? I'll tell ya, two of my local sports icons growing up had SONS involved in the game (Ewing, Strawberry). UGH. I felt 107. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I know I used to work in sports, but do not, by any means, listen to my NCAA predictions. I am never right, my brackets end up looking like a monkey smoking crack filled them out. I have no idea why this is, but it happens every year, so I'm resigned to it.

Overall, I have to say my state of mind now is probably better than it's been in a month. I know there are a lot of problems when it comes to work, and life in general, but I also realize that there's nothing I can do about them. With that in mind, I'm hoping to take more time to read this month. I finished the Buffy book, which, incidentally, is a great read for fans of the show, and feel reading more would help to relax me. I have a couple unread books on my stack of things to read, and after I've read those I'm going to head to the library. Yep, I have a library card. It's just a lot cheaper to take a book out for free than to pay list price for it plus the $4 for hot chocolate because now apparently bookstores love to sell things that stain books. First they trapped us with their comfy chairs, then they kept us there even longer by adding a cafe.... I swear, Barnes and Noble is a day away from just putting an open box of kleenex next to their porn.
