Pop Shots – Tuning In

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from the entire world listening to Adele, to a film about the love shared between Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, to the Jonas Brothers preparing to roast each other on Netflix, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Adele ruled the Billboard Global 200 chart this past week, as “Easy on Me” racked up 178.2 million streams, and sold 136,300 downloads worldwide. The single was joined on the chart by 10 other Adele songs, all from her previous albums. Combined, the 11 songs totaled 332 million streams and 152,000 downloads for the week. Hopefully at some point we’ll get the stats on how many people “accidentally” texted their exes during that time.

* Ed Sheeran announced he’d tested positive for COVID-19 just hours after SNL had announced him as their next musical guest. A plethora of artists offered to take his spot, and Ashlee Simpson chimed in by lip synching all of their requests.

* Becky G will be getting her own talk show, titled Face to Face With Becky G, on Facebook Watch. With all due respect to Becky G, I’m not sure now is the right time to be aligning yourself with Facebook.

* If you look at Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and think #RelationshipGoals, you’re in luck, because the story of their relationship will be the subject of an upcoming feature film. If the film turns out to be truly authentic, it will be the first movie in English that will require English subtitles.

* Alicia Keys revealed that her upcoming album, titled Keys, will be a double album. One album will feature the original, laid back versions of each song, while the other album will have upbeat versions co-produced by Mike Will Made-It. With Mike Will Made-It involved, I, for one, hope Alicia Keys goes full Bangerz era Miley Cyrus. Never forget – we run things, things don’t run we.

* The Weeknd has canceled his arena tour, wanting to up the ante in 2022 with a stadium tour. He may want to consult with the Miami Marlins before getting too amped up about touring stadiums.

* The Posies, who have been around for 35 years, broke up after a series of disturbing sexual assault allegations against the band’s co-founder Ken Stringfellow. I guess Seattle is going to have to find a new band to completely ignore.

* Staying in the world of legal issues, All Time Low has emphatically denied allegations that they engaged in inappropriate behavior with underage fans. Being that the allegations came from such dubious sources as “a since-deleted TikTok video,” and “a since-suspended Twitter account,” a statement is probably all the band needs to make at this point.

* The Jonas Brothers will be roasting each other for a Netflix special titled Jonas Brothers Family Roast, set to debut on November 23rd. Greg Giraldo must be up in Heaven like, “They gave my gig to the f*cking Jonas Brothers?!?!”

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
