Pop Shots – On To Something New

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Billie Eilish’s new kicks, to Dave Grohl’s new tour, to Adele’s new beau, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Billie Eilish has teamed up with Nike to create a line of 100% vegan gym shoes. Since they’re vegan, these sneakers will be cruelty-free … unless you count the slave labor used to make them.

* The Weeknd has been accused of plagiarism by electro-house duo Epikker. In a new lawsuit, Epikker claims The Weeknd’s 2018 song “Call Out My Name” stole from their 2017 song “Vibeking,” noting they sent “Vibeking” to one of The Weeknd’s engineers, who replied enthusiastically to it, saying he wanted to use it. Somewhere, Marvin Gaye’s family is plotting a way to get a piece of this.

* Machine Gun Kelly decided to talk smack about Slipknot while at Riot Fest. In a related story, scientists now agree that Machine Gun Kelly’s life expectancy has been drastically reduced.

* Lady Gaga announced she’ll be having a global livestream concert on September 30th to promote her upcoming Tony Bennett duets album, Love for Sale. In addition to being able to watch the concert from home, fans will also be able to view the show at a number of special fan zones in 21 different cities around the world. So basically she’s created sports bars, but for people who want to watch her on giant TVs instead of a ballgame.

* Britney Spears has returned to Instagram, with her break having lasted all of six days … because that’s exactly how long a celebrity can survive without attention.

* Dave Grohl will be going on a book tour in support of the release of his new memoir, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music, which is due out October 5th. So I guess we can add Dave Grohl to the long list of people following my lead by releasing a memoir. Apparently I am quite the trendsetter!

* Adele revealed she’s currently dating sports agent Rich Paul. Whenever they break up, NBA Twitter is gonna be ALL OVER that album.

* T.I. has released a diss track titled “F*ck Em” that’s aimed at his female accusers. This comes after learning he and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, will not face charges stemming from an incident involving a woman who alleged the couple drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2005. The fact that they’re not facing charges has nothing to do with any sort of innocence, but rather it’s because the statute of limitations expired. Call me crazy, but I don’t think getting off on a technicality warrants a diss track. Also, maybe “F*ck Em” is a poor choice of words considering the accusations. Just sayin’.

* Reba McEntire was among several people that had to be rescued from a historical house in Atoka, OK, after a stairwell in the building collapsed. Someone call Led Zeppelin, because this almost literally ended up a stairway to Heaven!

That’s all for this edition of Pop Shots, but come back next Monday for more shots on all things pop.
